Citizenship - Theoretical Bases and Teaching Practice
Bucvanová, Eliška ; Moree, Dana (advisor) ; Skovajsa, Marek (referee)
Eliška Bucvanová. Diplomová práce. Citizenship - Theoretical Bases and Teaching Practice ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH Weak civil society can be seen as a possible drawback of Czech democracy. One of the possible ways of building it is citizenship education provided within the compulsory school system. Citizenship is also the main subject of this work, which uses qualitative research methods to find out how the concept of "citizenship" is understood by teachers at a selected primary school, what information they provide to pupils on this subject and how. Since the scope of the paper would be insufficient, it does not intend to map the state of citizenship education in the Czech Republic: its aim is to find out how teachers approach the subject and whether their opinions coincide, and to compare their views with the information contained in literature. The results of the work show that the selected school is at a comparatively high level; however, the teachers' attitudes to citizenship education and its aims lack consistency and comprehensiveness and, also, the pupils' knowledge highly varies. This can be due to the fact that citizenship education has long been in need of an integrated approach and, very probably, also training opportunities for teachers that would help them develop their professional skills. The Cinematographic Work Devoted to the Holocaust in Instruction of Civics and History
Pinc, Benedikt ; Zicha, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Dvořáková, Michaela (referee)
Is the film suitable educational tool for teaching about holocaust? That is the main question and topic of the thesis. At first it im looking into general issues of holocaust in education. I'm trying to show that holocaust is not perceived only as a historical event, but as a specific demonstration of modern society in a first place. Focusing only on its historical attributes results in ignoring ethical and societal dimensions of this topic. For that i'm also suggesting that we should be teaching about holocaust not only in history, but also in civics. Further in this paper im trying to examine using film as the educational tool. I'm working here with the proposition that the film is not representing reality, but it's always just a reflexion of the reality. And as such it needs to work with the memory. Memory is constructing frames of our thinking and understanding of the world around. While using film in education, we need to keep in mind that film is a product of certain cultural memory and memory frames. This product is then retroactively helping to reinforce those memory frames which it came from. I also did some research on legislative aspects of using film in education. In the end of this paper im trying to use aforesaid statements in designing several demonstrational classes on the topic of...

The bachelor thesis is dedicated to the development of active civic attitude among pupils and to teacher education in this field. Active citizenship education is internationally recognized as a key aim of education and, along with current developments, its importance is ever growing. The aim of the paper is to research the value of the topic in the Czech environment, and whether it is integrated into teacher education. The theoretical part of the paper is dedicated to the definition of the topic, the possibilities of its development in the classroom, the specifics of teacher education in this regard, and available methodological resources. In the practical part, a quantitative survey was carried out among the students of the Faculty of Education at the Charles University, accompanied by a qualitative research among the representatives of the academy, as well as of the non-governmental sector. The hypothesises of the paper were verified by the survey: there is a great emphasis to the topic from the side of the teacher educators as well as of the students of teaching; currently, however, its application in practice is limited. From the side of the faculty, there is a growing tendention to cooperate with the non-governmental organisations, which dispose of high quality resources in teacher education...
